Welcome to Alphonsa High School
Saint Alphonsa the heavenly patroness of the school, was born on 19th August 1910 at Kudamaloor in Kerala. Inspired by the heroic lives of saints who followed Jesus Christ closely especially St Theresa of Lisieux, Alphonsa desired to become a religious (nun) . She joined the Clarist Convent at Bharananganam and received the religious habit (nun's dress) in 1930 and subsequently she served as a teacher for some time in the school at Vakakkadu (Kerala). Sister Alphonsa was very much fond of children and shemingled with them freely imparting the tender and saving love of Jesus Christ. She was very sweet in her behaviour and was loved by the pupils.
Not long after, a senes of diseases like haemorrhage, typhoid, ulcer, malaria, insomnia and loss of appetite crushed her. Even inher worst agony, she prayed to the Divine Master for more suffering for the spiritual renewal of the world. She suffered heroically and out of this crucible of suffering bloomed the Passion Flower - a name by which she is known among her devotees.
Attracted by the holiness of Alphonsa lying on the bed in the nearby room, the school children used to visit her regularly and ask her intercession and prayers. After years of prolonged agony and suffering, shewas called to heavenly bliss on the 28th of July 1946. Although her death did not make any headline news, the children continued to visit her tomb and pray to her seeking her intercession. Many miracles happened. The radiance and fragrance of her sanctity soon spread all around. People from far and near began to gather at her tomb pleading for her intercession. - Pope John Paul II, the visible head of the Catholic Church, during his visit to India, beatified her on 8th February, 1986 proclaiming her worthy of honour and veneration.
On 12th October 2008 Blessed Alphonsa was canonized as Saint by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in Rome and she is the first Catholic Woman Saint from India. Imbibing the tender love and affection of Jesus Christ, shown by Saint Alphonsa, we dedicate ourselves to the sacred service of educating the students at Alphonsa School, with love and devotion.
